FRIENDS OF ST MICHAEL'S

Can we include you among our friends?

This is your Church
St. Michael & All Angels Church was consecrated in 1857. Often referred to as ‘Crewe Green Church’ it was designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott during the reign of Queen Victoria. Its historical significance is reflected in its Grade 2* listed building status. Thanks to generations of devoted and generous supporters this beautiful; building is in reasonable order. However we constantly need to carry out specialist maintenance work in order to preserve it for future generations. This is just not possible from our meagre resources. We do our best to make St. Michael’s a friendly Church by welcoming everyone, but now we need your help and support.

A Church for the whole community

Carrying out God’s work in a parish demands a great deal of devotion and care from the local community not just those who go to church. All of us attend weddings, funerals and baptisms and many enjoy the special services at Christmas and Easter. The architecture and the well kept churchyard are admired. The interior is warm and light and the general demeanour is peaceful.

But who pays for all this?

The comparatively small but enthusiastic band or regular worshippers. Financially St. Michael’s Church will survive – or perish – by the actions of You and people like you. There is no outside help from the Diocese, the National Church of England, local or national Government.

That’s why we need you to be a Friend of St. Michael’s Church

Individuals, families or companies can become Friends of St. Michael’s.

You may have worshipped at St. Michael’s in the past and possibly moved away – or you just don’t attend church anymore. Even so you may have a warm feeling for this lovely Church.

You may have been baptised, confirmed or married at St. Michael’s, or attended Sunday school.

You may be a former Scout, Brownie or Guide.

You may have loved ones buried in the Churchyard or find the prospect of having a pile of rubble or block of flats where the church now stands totally abhorrent to you.

We hope and pray that you can make a regular contribution as a Friend of St. Michael’s Church.

John Ellerton wrote the much loved hymn  ‘The day Thou gavest Lord is ended’  whilst Vicar at St. Michael’s Church.

How you can help

St. Michael’s is in need of, and would welcome, your financial support. As part of our heritage the Church is every bit as important to the broader community as it is to the Churchgoers who have kept St. Michael’s an active place of

worship and a focal point of interest for over 150 years. It is a fact that what one person regards as a fortune another will think of as a pittance. With this in mind we are asking you to make a regular contribution of an amount best

suited to your circumstances. If you are a UK tax payer your gift will go considerably further if you complete the Gift Aid Declaration below.

In return the Vicar and Church Council promise that:- “Not one penny of the contributions made to the Friends of St. Michael’s and all Angels Church, Crewe Green, will be used on the day-to-day running costs of the Church or any charity supported by the Church. All contributions will be banked in a safe bona fide account, and will be shown clearly in the annual accounts. All such monies will be used solely for the Church buildings and surrounds sanctioned by the Church Council using approved contractors”.

You may wish to help organise a fund raising event for the Friends funds, or use a skill making jam, marmalade, building bird houses or perhaps running a trip to a theatre, a place of interest, or very importantly help to keep the churchyard tidy. Currently we run Quizzes, a number of Coffee Mornings, a Summer Fair, a Christmas fair and other

activities. If you can help in any way we’d be delighted to hear from you.
